Client
Paseo del Puente shopping mall
Partner: Leser Seguridad Electrónica
Paseo del Puente is an open-air shopping center spanning 96,875 ft². It houses a supermarket, a gym, various commercial premises, and a spacious food court. The client sought a security system to safeguard key access points during non-working hours while minimizing the need for on-site security personnel.
Challenge
Implementing a comprehensive security solution for a complex retail facility
The Paseo del Puente shopping center presented unique security challenges due to its size, multiple access points, and diverse facilities. Traditional security systems are rarely deployed in such large spaces because of the high costs and complexity.
The client aimed to optimize security expenses by partially replacing physical guards with an advanced, integrated security solution. The system needed to provide access control for critical areas, such as terraces, parking areas, pedestrian entrances, stairwells, and elevators, while also implementing fire and CO detection in the food court. Crucially, the solution had to be installed without significant renovations and remain effective across challenging environments with numerous sources of radio interference.
Solution
A wireless security system with quick installation and expansive coverage
Leser Seguridad Electrónica proposed Ajax as the ideal solution for a rapidly deployable and reliable security system capable of covering extensive premises. With the shopping mall nearing completion and no pre-planned infrastructure for a wired solution, Ajax’s wireless technology proved to be the only practical option. Ajax devices offered an impressive communication range and stellar performance, effectively securing large and challenging facilities.
At the core of the system is Hub 2 Plus Jeweller, designed for complex facilities. It can manage up to 200 devices and provides a signal range of up to 6,500 ft. The hub also supports up to 25 security groups and 200 users, enabling the organization of security zones and staff access, which is ideal for large properties like shopping malls.
Additionally, two ReX 2 Jeweller range extenders were installed to ensure stable communication across the large facility and counter radio interference caused by walls and floors. Supporting over 60 on-site devices, ReX 2 Jeweller expanded the system’s coverage and provided reliable signal transmission between detectors and the hub.
To enhance security in the office spaces, six DoorProtect Jeweller detectors were installed. These devices respond to doors and windows being opened, notifying of unauthorized attempts to enter the premises.
For comprehensive floor access control, six MotionProtect Jeweller detectors protect halls, staircases, and elevator areas. These wireless indoor motion detectors, equipped with PIR sensors, monitor an area within a 39-foot radius and effectively distinguish human movement.
Two MotionProtect Outdoor Jeweller detectors were installed to secure the 2nd-floor outdoor area, covering the stairwells. These wireless devices feature an advanced anti-masking system to identify attempts to block their view, whether by painting over the lens, covering it, or placing an obstacle in front of it. The detectors utilize two PIR sensors and the SmartDetect algorithm to accurately differentiate between human movement and environmental interference.
Throughout the shopping mall, five HomeSiren Jeweller devices were installed. These sirens feature a sound output of up to 100 dB and a built-in LED indicator. The devices serve two purposes: quickly notifying security staff of potential intrusions and acting as a visual and auditory deterrent. Additionally, a single StreetSiren Jeweller was installed in the main parking lot, delivering an even more powerful 113 dB alert to both personnel and nearby individuals in case of an intrusion.
To secure the perimeter, infrared barriers were deployed around the facility’s fence and access points. They were integrated into the Ajax system using twelve Transmitter Jeweller modules. If an attempt is made to cross the boundary, the barriers detect an interruption in the circuit, and the transmitter immediately triggers an alarm. Using an Ajax app, security personnel can quickly identify in which sector the breach occurred and promptly inspect the area. Upon alarm transmission, Transmitter Jeweller activates a scenario that prompts Relay Jeweller to reset the electric fence energizer, ensuring the perimeter remains continuously protected.
Underlining the importance of quick and simple control over the security system, three KeyPad Jeweller devices and three Ajax SpaceControl Jeweller key fobs were implemented. These devices provide convenient options for managing security modes, ensuring security personnel can interact with the system effortlessly. The keypads were positioned at critical points such as security posts, entrances, and offices, to enable immediate system management. Additionally, this allowed for various access types featuring role-based permissions. Complementing the keypads, the compact key fob provided remote security mode management and facilitated quick panic alarm activation when necessary.
Fire safety in the food court was addressed through a multi-layered detection approach: fourteen FireProtect 2 (Heat/Smoke) Jeweller detectors and two FireProtect 2 (Heat/Smoke/CO) Jeweller detectors were deployed. These devices detect smoke, rapid temperature increases, and dangerous carbon monoxide levels. To enhance emergency response, four ManualCallPoint Jeweller buttons were installed, enabling staff to trigger fire alarms manually. When activated, the system instantly transmits an alarm signal to the Rosario Monitoring Center (CMR) and triggers built-in buzzers of the fire detectors.
Three security guards use the Ajax Security System app to manage the system efficiently. The app’s intuitive interface provides real-time device status, security mode control, event tracking, and access management — all directly from smartphones. Thanks to device addressability, guards can instantly identify which specific detector triggered an alarm, enabling faster responses without unnecessary delays. Additionally, the shopping center can be divided into separate security groups, allowing guards to manage security modes for each area independently.
Why Ajax
Quick and easy deployment. No-mess installation and unmatched connectivity. Enhanced response efficiency.
Quick and easy deployment. Ajax wireless devices are designed for fast installation and effortless configuration, enabling the system to become operational in record time. The fire protection system was fully deployed in just one day, while the intrusion solution was installed up to 8 times faster than conventional systems.
No-mess installation and unmatched connectivity. Traditional wired systems for large sites, such as shopping centers, are often costly and time-consuming to install. In contrast, Ajax’s wireless solution allowed for a quick installation without the need for cable routing, disrupting the interior design, or requiring extensive renovations. Besides, Ajax ensures stable connectivity across extensive facilities, overcoming radio interference caused by walls, metal structures, and ceilings that typically present challenges to other systems.
Enhanced response efficiency. Device addressability enables guards to instantly identify the specific detector that triggered an alarm, allowing for quicker and more accurate responses.
